Young Parent Program/South Fort George Family Resource Centre Family Development Worker

Location – Prince George

(Permanent Full-Time)


The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary to provide individual and group support with respect to parenting, relationships and skill building and child development.  This role must bring a strong focus on strength-based family systems and attachment based support, in order to promote a safe and healthy living environment for families.  The successful candidate will provide programming within the Young Parent Program and the South Fort George Family Resource Centre Power Play program and will require travel between programs.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • Diploma in a related human/social service field such as Early Childhood Education or Social Work
  • Qualifications will also include one (1) year recent related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Provides families with the relevant information and lifestyle support they require to increase the probability of positive parenting, with the goal of improving child development and growth outcomes
  • Gathers information relevant to the family’s needs and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires. Assesses the information gathered to identify presenting issues, needs and risks. Develops and implements a family centered, strength based plan within program guidelines
  • Completes electronic files, intakes and record keeping
  • Excellent knowledge of trauma informed practice, attachment, and positive family functioning
  • Provides support, guidance and solution-focused, problem-solving to families to address issues related to family functioning in an individual or group setting using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counselling techniques and psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified issues.
  • Consults with program manager on regular basis to review caseload
  • Develops opportunities for parents to be engaged in a parent child programming which focuses on positive parenting practices
  • Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required
  • Advocates for families with other community resources upon their request and where appropriate, makes referrals to community agencies as required
  • Participates in evaluation of program, as requested
  • Attends meetings relevant to the program, as required
  • Ensures that the Young Parent Program and FRC Power Play program are well known in the community through networking, advertising, and other program promotion strategies
  • Plans and conducts group educational sessions on topics related to family functioning
  • Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the program manager
  • Performs other related duties, as required
  • You must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s licence, with a clear driver’s abstract,   and a vehicle in good working condition
  • First Aid and Food Safe required

Salary Range:

$18.66-$21.73 (collective agreement)

Work Schedule:

35 hours per week; 70 hours bi-weekly

Monday – Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
