Child/Youth Transition House Worker

Location – Prince George

(Permanent Part-Time)

Purpose:

The Transition House Child & Youth Worker provides support and services to children and youth, and their mothers, who are or could be at risk of abuse, threats, and/or violence. This position will carry the responsibility of providing a safe and supportive living environment where children and youth can participate in age specific recreational activities and interactions within the Transition House. Provides emotional support and feedback. This position requires an ability to work in a stressful environment. The Transition House Child & Youth Worker is often dealing with children and youth who are working through difficult situations and have potential exposure to trauma.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • Grade twelve, plus post-secondary training in child care or a related field of up to
  • one (1) year i.e. ECE Certificate
  • A minimum of a diploma in Human/Social Services or related field
  • At least six months related work experience, with children and youth is required including working within a feminist framework
  • A Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required along with clear drivers abstract
  • A valid Food Safe Certificate is required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal communication, oral and written skills
  • Strong knowledge of child growth and development
  • Ability to work effectively with children and youth, and provide a safe and fun environment
  • Knowledge about violence in relationships substance abuse and misuse, emotional, physical, and mental abuse, the effects of trauma on the lives of children, and systemic pressures that marginalize women and their dependent children
  • Good understanding and ability to role model positive guidance techniques
  • Knowledge about children who witness violence
  • Good Computer knowledge and skills
  • Well developed organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player

Salary Range:

$16.10 – $18.77 (collective agreement)

Work Schedule:

Wednesday to Saturday – 4 hours per day
