Early Childhood Educator

Location – Prince George

Nature of Position

The Early Childhood Educator provides support and direct care to children under three years of age within a licenced Infant Toddler Childcare Facility as part of the Young Parent Program.  This position follows the school calendar which is September to June.  The Early Childhood Educator will assess and promote the physical, social, intellectual, and emotional growth of young children within a group setting.

The Early Childhood Educators are part of the Young Parent Program team which provides services to young parents who have had their first child before 20 years but are under the age of 24.  The program provides information, referrals, support and accompaniments to clients.  Some work will be required outside normal office hours, but within 30 hours per week.

Required Education, Training and Experience

  •  Early Childhood Education Certificate, preference to Infant Toddler Specialization
  • At least one (1) years’ recent related work experience, working within a feminist framework

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with program delivery, within the program service model framework
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge about violence in relationships, substance abuse and misuse, emotional, physical, and mental abuse, the effects of trauma on the lives of women and their dependent children, and systemic pressures that marginalize women and their dependent children
  • Possess extensive knowledge of child of child development and assessment
  • High level knowledge and ability to facilitate family functioning and development; in conjunction with working knowledge of attachment theories
  • Strong understanding and ability to model RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers)
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills
  • Well-developed organizational time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and be a team player
  • Ability to maintain accurate, and appropriate file notes
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Seek appropriate and timely managerial supervision and debriefing

Salary Range

$19.45 – $22.65 Collective Agreement

Current Shift Schedule

Yearly seasonal position September through June – 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday – Friday
